Where did my shelf go?......

When I saw Garbage Garage Flipper I knew I had to check it out. Being a fan of Flipper and renovation games it called out to me. As mundane as it sounds, I wasn't too sure what to expect from it...but it's a flipper game right, it can't be that bad.

Well, it does exactly what it says on the tin but someone left the tin in storage, as there are bugs crawling all over it.

You walk into your own garage which has 2 floors but is very small... and broken. At this point, it wants to introduce to you the basic controls, so you go around lightly cleaning things up and moving things around, however, you can't pick everything up. I tried to rearrange my garage to make it my own, I picked up my shelves and tried to move them. Unfortunately, this didn't go to plan and they rage quit, disappearing into oblivion through the floor. Not to worry, I'm sure they will reappear eventually, right?

I wouldn't go into this game thinking it's gonna be just like some of its predecessors. The core mechanics of the game is pretty much there but with some changes that might be a little annoying to some, like me... i was annoyed.
Why can't I glide from one section of the wall to the next while painting without needing to click again but I can when sanding the wall?

However, I think it's important to highlight that they have tried to add some more realistic details to the game, which was kinda cool and I liked that aspect. I like that the wall, after being painted isn't just a solid block colour like you might be used to in other games, you can see the brush strokes and uneven paint streaks which gives it a nice touch of reality like we would see before the paint dries. I also found it interesting that you needed to sand the walls down before you could paint, which then left dust on the floor that you'd need to clean up. Ok, it's an extra step but I liked they wanted to make it seem a bit more realistic and it was a much smoother process to do than the actual painting itself. Even with it fully upgraded, it made it quicker but I still couldn't just sweep the wall as you would in other games.

Still looking for my shelves.....

Unlike the other games of this type, where you can buy something from the in-game store and it just magically appears in your hands to place in your new home, you have to run back to your truck and carry it over, one item at a time...ugh.

Have you ever seen a pickup truck throw a tantrum like a toddler in their crib? no, well, look no further! it often threw my newly bought items and sent them flying. Maybe it didn't like my style but the choices were limited and with that, it limited creativity for its already simple and repetitive garages.

But wait, I can buy an AKM? such a random item to be able to buy in the game but it doesn't matter, you can't "decorate" with it anyway...

Often I would load into a "new" garage and question myself if I had already done this garage and task. There are only a few garage shapes and garden designs so it often felt like Groundhog Day.
There are a handful of different settings but often it is just the environment and you can't do anything with it. when you find the garage area you are to work on its the same shape, same paint, same-store items and similar tasks as all the other garages. nothing stands out as unique and more like a grind to just get the game done.

I mentioned that the game is broken right? well, for its simplicity of getting the tasks done, you can max out your stars in every job with ease BUT maybe the game got a bit annoyed with that and decided that I hadn't painted anything, nor bought the requested items and certainly didn't rebuild any walls and floors. yet everything was ticked and ready to go. it gave me 1 star for not doing anything. At least I got the achievement for 1 starring a mission. I thought that would be the last achievement to get as it's so easy and you can get all achievements by simply playing casually without any challenge.

A few other things to note... the music will make you want to plug your ears up with cement and there are no controller capabilities... both of these are a huge downfall for me in games. I ended up playing with my own music in the background and begrudgingly using k/m.

overall, it's not a game I would go out of my way to play or purchase.

Personal Rating: 2/5

I don't really recommend this until they fix the bugs and add some more unique designs and in-game items.

BTW... the shelves never reappeared
