Nobody Sleeps Tonight Review
Developer and Publisher - RC Works
A co-op survival horror about finding your friend who disappears at night in a strange forest hiding a sinister secret.
Play with up to 4 of your friends in a Phasmophobia/Lethal Company horror-based game.
Play in randomly generated maps, that will always bring a new experience in your gameplay, nothing is the same, not even the items that you can find lying about.
Search for your missing friend in either Single-player or Co-Op, while uncovering the deep dark secrets as you explore the vast networks of underground facilities around the map.
Featuring 5 endings, will you make it out alive, or will you perish into the unknown demonic realms?
I battered this idiot with my wonderful Broom.
Gameplay
The game does not offer any form of tutorial, but the controls are pretty much what you would expect from your typical FPS game. WASD to move, Left mouse button to use your primary attack, F to use or pickup items.
In terms of gameplay, you may play with friends in up to a group of 4 as you explore the surrounding area for clues or hints as to your friend's disappearance, you may also play solo, but it got boring.
You could play Co-Op but you would need to talk with the devs to get access as the game is still very Early Access.
There's so much reading! Too bad the rest of the diary entries are the same.
Whichever option you pick, the gameplay keeps you on your toes as in every new game that you play, the maps, dungeons, encountered enemies and even the loot on the ground is randomised. You won't find the same fish can in the same place.
The main objective differs per player, with a total of 5 endings to be discovered and 8 achievements to find along the way, it may take you some time to discover them all.
To save your friend, save yourself or discover the secrets of the dungeons, the choice is a tough one, especially if you choose to save yourself... The main objective is to escape by finding the 4 wheels taken from your truck, beyond that, everything is optional.
Character creation at its finest!
Before you start the game, you are given the option to choose between 7 different classes, with the ability to choose your age, name, character design and seed of the map. From what I could tell, the voice lines did not work, so it doesn't matter which you pick.
Each class are as follows;
The athlete gives you extra sprinting speed, the chef gives you more recovery from food, the builder increases your maximum stamina,
the teacher makes you harder to see by small children entities, the veterinarian makes you harder to see by animal entities,
The electrician makes your batteries last longer and finally, the paramedic gives you more health recovery from medications.
As for me? I picked the athlete which helped me greatly, though I more or less ran towards enemies... Charge attack initiated!
During my playthrough, I found multiple encounters with enemies of different varieties and landmarks that had nothing to offer inside them.
Along with landmarks, you may come across items of interest, like campfires that have healing items or weapons lying around them, though items can spawn anywhere they want, I found a random energy drink in the middle of nowhere.
You may also encounter lore books, which in my opinion was an AI writing it, each book is almost like a page long with many big words that are hard to pronounce or read, I think my English is great, but jeez.
Most of the lore pages I found were just rewrites of another lore book just reworded differently.
Should we delve deeper into the demonic abyss? I have no choice anyway!
Final Thoughts
The graphics are not at all the greatest, but they work well enough with the optional VHS setting that you can toggle on or off in the settings.
Sound cues will help you greatly in this game, though, being partially deaf they were not that bad, I could at least hear the screeches and the "Jumpscares"
The random maps are great and all, and they are also pretty large maps, with limited food and weapon durability, you will have a reasonably good time playing this game with friends, I can also imagine this game coming with a variety of mods like Lethal Company has become.
Ahh, warmth! What could go wrong here?
Rating
I would rate this game a 4.
If I were able to play with other people, I would slap a massive 5 to this game, it was ever-so boring to play solo in a game like this.
