Perseus: Titan Slayer Review

Description

Be advised this review is for the FREE TRIAL version of the game

Defeat the Titans as you battle your way into Tartarus to stop Hades from conquering Olympus and destroying the world.

In this rogue-like dungeon crawler adventure, you will play as Perseus, a demigod tasked with one mission; stop Hades and the evil forces that surround him.

Developer - Sicarius / Publisher - G-DEVS.com

Perseus, someone similar to Hercules in ancient Greece, sets on a daunting adventure to slay the gods.

Encounter hordes upon hordes of enemies, as you buy gear and use skill points to withstand a better chance of survival, do you have what it takes to stand against the menacing Dragon and the Stone bearer Medusa?

The free trial allows you to explore 10 dungeon-crawling-type levels in a fast-paced environment and face 2 ancient gods. You will encounter epic fights and potentially a lot of lag as you "explode" your way through the levels using skills and powers.

It was not easy taking these images amid battle, but here are some of the most intense battles you'll face.

Gameplay

Zeus, the chief god of the sky, spawns you at the beginning where he hopes you won't come again (Even though you will have to!)

Here you are allowed to select one of the 4 weapons to the right of you, as well as select permanent bonuses, but fret not you can upgrade these each time you finish the campaign.

The Bow, Katana, Daggers and the Sword, choose one wisely as you will be stuck with it until you begin the journey again.

While I only played using the daggers, katana and bow, I have to say that my favourite was the bow, clearly for its range, and damage power when you level up your skills and select the appropriate items.

Speaking of items, did I forget to mention that you can buy a variety of these useful things from the shop? Increase your mana, health, damage plus many other things including attack speed.

As you dip and dive deeper into the story, you'll notice that the controls feel... unnatural, and they are.

It feels like the game design was meant to be played on a controller, you'll see that you won't be facing in the direction you are running unless you are attacking.

I'm not a fan of the top-down type of games, and although the controls seemingly are lacking, the visuals and graphics come a lot better. With each skill, you use you can see, though I was playing on Epic settings which probably makes the game look a lot better than I'm explaining.

For the sounds, be ready to prepare your ears for the amount of clashing of steel, constant skill attacks and so many other things, that I felt rather disorientated, I believe that there is too much going on at once.

Meanwhile, the voice acting for the story, and characters are nice, the narrative in the story sounds like they are trying a bit too hard, and seems forced into it, rather than fluid and rolling off from the tongue.

The story itself is great, Hades shits himself as you draw blood from the Dragon. The slicing of Medusa's head and using it as a weapon of destruction is extremely useful.

You can select 2 modes, Hardcore or Arcade mode.

Hardcore mode is story-driven and you move from scene to scene, meanwhile, in Arcade mode you are stuck in one room, with no story options whatsoever.

On the brighter side, the arcade does still offer gold, shop and skill upgrades over time, until you finally come face-to-face with the final boss.

After each successive run, you can play additionally harder modes named ascension, which makes the game tougher, marginally.

Final thoughts

Overall, it was a nice change of pace, could do with a touch-up on controlling your character.

The game does have some replayability, but since it was only the Free Trial, I found the gameplay repetitive and boring after the first 2 playthroughs, and while on the subject of playthroughs.

When you either finish the campaign or die, you must start a new game, there is no saving and there is no loading, either you complete it all at once, or just do not finish it.

I got to the 3rd Ascension before calling it quits, how about you?
