Frozen Flame Review

Platform: PC Steam

Developer: Dreamside Interactive

Frozen Flame is set in a beautiful world with challenges and adventure intertwined. Think Valhiem, but with better graphics and less content.

What Does Frozen Flame Entail?

In a dying world of dragons, only those with the power of the Frozen Flame have the means to survive and be able to cleanse the world for good. Explore, build, kill and quest.

With plenty more additions to come.

So What Are The Gameplay and Graphics Like?

Starting as a skeleton in the Asylum of Faceless, you must fight guardians to get to the energy vortex, where you are resurrected. I assume this is supposed to be a little tutorial for fighting and a bit of a backstory. Not that it shows you anything outright, other than at the bottom right corner what buttons to click when fighting that stay there throughout the game. However, the game controls are pretty straightforward.

At this point, you customize your character, where you can be male or female. There aren't that many options when it comes to customizing; however, I still liked the available options. I, however, did notice there were no options for afro-textured hair. Inclusivity is essential, and though they had a good range of skin tones, they missed the mark regarding hair.

Once customization is done, you are teleported to the Temple of Flames, where you can finally walk to the gates that take you to the outside world.

There is an ok amount to do in its current state, but I would say I spent most of my time building as, story-wise, there isn't much there yet. You can only unlock one portal to a new area as of writing this (December) However, you can cook, fight, craft, mine, cut trees, gather, loot chests, discover new places, and build. With a few quests and two big boss fights implemented so far.

Though don't expect too much from the building as there aren't all that many options yet, especially when it comes to decorating.

One thing I would highly recommend is focusing on levelling and getting decent armour, as, to begin with, the enemies are somewhat difficult to kill, and at times, I found it very frustrating.

When levelling, you can unlock new abilities and make yourself stronger overall. The UI for this is straightforward to navigate. One ability you unlock as you progress through the game is being able to turn into a bird, which allows you to fly in certain areas. I thought this was a great addition, but be warned, if you fly in a place you are not supposed to, you will get a nasty shock (Literally.)

Visually I think the devs hit the spot with Frozen FlameThey went for the cartoony approach; it truly is a beautiful place to explore, and I look forward to seeing what is in store for the rest of the world.

It is easy to see where you need to go for quests as they have used light beams as waypoints, and the UI is easy to navigate, even without a tutorial.

My Overall Opinion

I enjoyed the game for a while; however, with little content, it doesn't take long to complete what has been released, especially considering the game's price. Which in the UK is selling for £24.99. I think they are asking for too much as of writing this. Once completed, I'm sure I would change my opinion on that as it looks promising.

It seems like a story-rich game, but too soon to say if it will be any good. They should have held off on releasing the game just yet.

Though I am glad they are open to what is to come with their roadmaps, I think this is a game I could fall in love with.

Therefore I give it a stamp of...

Promising
